Expectations

“A Student, Who Does Not Attend, Cannot Benefit from Our Program”

In order for a student to receive instruction it is necessary that he/she attend school on a regular basis. Classes begin at 8:30 AM. and end at 1:47 p.m. All students are required to sign-in by 8:20 a.m. to be in the classroom at 8:30 a.m. Signing-out is not necessary unless the student leaves before1:47p.m. Absence due to illness or family emergency will be excused provided the student returns to school with a note from the parent/guardian. Home calls are made daily when a student is absent or late for school. We ask that the parents or guardians contact us when the student is expected to be tardy or absent. The phone number is (323) 296-3258. Regardless of the student’s age a parent/guardian must sign the note and include a phone number where he/she can be contacted. Permission to leave school is granted by the principal or designee only if requested by the student's parent/guardian, regardless of age. Students will be dropped after fifteen (15) days of consecutive absence.

PLEASE NOTE: Request for letters of enrollment, attendance verifications, and or transcripts will be completed within 48 hours (2 days) after request is made.

Tardiness

All students enrolled at Whitney Young are required to report to school by 8:20 a.m. Students are considered tardy after 8:30 a.m. An excessive number of tardiness will affect the student’s academic grade, work habits and cooperation grades. Chronic lateness will result in the student being returned to his/her home school.

TRUANCY

Unexcused absences or tardy days are recorded as truancies on the student’s legal attendance.
